Considerations for equitable and inclusive recruitment, hiring, and onboarding practices for teachers and leaders in remote settings.
This strategy explores considerations leaders and recruiters should take in creating an equitable and inclusive process for recruiting, hiring, and onboarding new teachers in a remote learning setting.
Recruiting, hiring, and onboarding can look significantly different when working with virtual talent. In order to foster diversity, equity, and inclusiveness throughout the process, the Remote DEI Collective created a guide to support hiring managers with key considerations and resources when building a team.
This resource brings forth a number of considerations for leaders and hiring managers, including:
-
Creating a job description
-
Determining where to post and recruit for the position
-
Reviewing potential candidates
-
Interviewing
-
Putting together an offer for the selected candidate
-
Onboarding
-
Retaining staff
While the slide deck was designed with general remote organizations in mind, we encourage leaders to think about these strategies from the perspective of hiring to fill positions in a remote learning environment, including educators at every level.
The Remote DEI Collective was a collaborative group led by The Learning Accelerator (TLA), and brought together participants from remote organizations to address the challenges of advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in remote environments. This strategy has been adapted from the Remote DEI Collective’s toolkit, which was built to offer resources to improve remote culture and practices, in order to better suit leaders and educators working for schools that offer virtual and hybrid learning options to students.
