Large labs used for assessments and online work enable individual learner pathways and small group instruction

Locust Grove started its personalized learning implementation as a lab rotation model where “students rotate to a computer lab for the online learning station” (Christensen Institute). It created large Assessment Labs for students to work on online content and take assessments. This drastically reduced the number of students in the classroom, creating more opportunities for teachers to have meaningful interactions with students. Their approach has evolved, incorporating components of station rotation and individual rotation models into the smaller classrooms. Students still attend the Assessment Lab every day, but also experience small group rotations and the use of customized learner pathways in their classes.
