To support teachers through the process of their grade interview pilot, Austin ISD’s Strategy Lab team created a centralized space for documenting the process. The document includes links to important surveys and resources, clarification of roles, as well as running notes from teacher meetings. In documenting the process, the team was better able to surface learnings in real-time and maintain momentum throughout the process.
A step-by-step guide on how to create and implement virtual learning plans starting with a list of tips and suggestions for how to communicate with families and monitor progress and incentivize students.
To support teachers in their rollout of the grade interview strategy, Austin ISD’s Strategy Lab team created an initial presentation about the pilot process, explaining the reasoning behind the pilot and soliciting input from teachers on how to improve the process moving forward. This initial deck helped launch the grade interview pilot by establishing clear messaging and transparency.

Meriden provides an education to 8,600 students across twelve schools and alternative educational programs. Teachers, administrators and students have received awards and recognition from community, state and national organizations.
The Mendon-Upton Regional School District (MURSD) consists of four schools. At present time there are approximately 2,400 students in the district. The MURSD is also a “choice” district as we accept students from nearby districts on a lottery basis based upon seats available at the school and grade level. The mission of the MURSD guides all programming and decision-making: to provide a competitive advantage to all students so they may be successful in college/postsecondary study and beyond.
To support students’ metacognition as well as foster standards-based grading, teachers at Austin ISD piloted grade interviews with their students, allowing them to self-assess on a rubric and defend their grade through 1:1 conversation with their teacher.
