Equipping Students to Drive Community Change with AI
To develop true AI literacy, students must actively create alongside AI, rather than passively consume its outputs. DSST Public Schools civics teachers Zach Kennelly and Gianna Geraffo designed a project where students built AI-powered chatbots to address community needs, reinforcing their understanding of AI’s role in society. By integrating real-world applications, industry partnerships, and multiple feedback cycles, the project empowered students to use AI as a tool for civic engagement and problem-solving.
