Understand where edtech products support virtual and hybrid learning quality

Edtech plays a critical role in promoting the quality of virtual and hybrid learning. Leaders must capture and reflect on their edtech tools’ ability to drive quality learning.

Virtual and hybrid program leaders can improve their programs by selecting and implementing edtech products that support the quality drivers of virtual and remote learning. These leaders can use this tool – based on The Learning Accelerator (TLA)’s Key Factors that Help Drive Remote Learning Quality – to capture the edtech products their programs use, and prompt reflections about where these tools do (or do not) support quality.

Using this Tool

Leaders should list out their virtual or hybrid program’s edtech tools within the Edtech Stack Reflection Checklist tab, and then:

• Step 1: Identify how the program uses each tool (e.g., as infrastructure, to facilitate instruction, to deliver content).

• Step 2: Use the provided dropdown menus to answer the questions related to each tool’s ability to support the remote learning quality drivers.

Making Meaning

While leaders may infer meaning about the fit of existing individual tools or specific potential new products within their edtech stacks, the most valuable insights drawn from this checklist are about the overall ability of an edtech stack to support program quality holistically. With each tool entered into the Edtech Stack Reflection Checklist tab, leaders should ask themselves the following broader questions:

• Do the tools within my program’s edtech stack holistically support the drivers of quality virtual and remote learning?

• Are there gaps in the ability of my program’s edtech stack to support the quality of virtual or hybrid learning?

No single edtech tool will “make or break” a virtual or hybrid program’s ability to drive toward quality remote learning, and not every tool within a program’s edtech stack has to support all aspects of remote learning quality. However, making stronger decisions about which edtech products their programs deploy begins with developing an understanding of which tools programs use, how they use them, and how these tools work together to support learning quality.
