Mood Meter

Developed by the University of New Hampshire Health and Wellness (and utilizing the work of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence), the Mood Meter activity helps students identify and name their emotions – a key skill for developing self-regulation. Emotions exist across the axis of Pleasantness and Energy. After naming their emotions, students are prompted to think about how these feelings can best be channeled or matched with certain activities, reinforcing that all emotions are accepted.

Taos Academy’s Synchronous Advisory

All students at Taos Academy are required to join their weekly synchronous advisory meeting with their academic advisor and cohort. This synchronous meeting runs from 8:15 a.m. to 12 m. once per week, during which students and advisors engage in social-emotional learning (SEL) activities, goal-setting, small-group check-ins, and one-to-one support. This sets up students for independent success during the rest of their weekly asynchronous time.

Mentor Teacher Selection Form

Village High School in Colorado allows students to select their mentor teacher through a voting process. Each student fills out a Google Form and ranks their first, second, and third choices, and then school leaders match each student with their preferred mentor teacher as best as they can.

At Map Academy, the Anchor program provides each student a 1:1 relationship with an adult adviser, an opportunity to build community with peers, and a designated block of time each day to set academic goals and monitor student progress.
