Current to Future State: Issues and Action Steps for State Policy to Support Personalized, Competency-Based Learning

This report provides a roadmap and action steps for state policymakers to catalyze transformational change in K-12 education toward a future vision for systems that ensure success for all students.

In this report, iNACOL articulates a vision for the future of K-12 education and offers action steps for state policymakers. Its purpose is to inspire state policymakers, including governors, state legislators, state boards of education, state school chiefs and state policy staff with a vision for transformation and to provide specific steps, policy strategies and recommendations for enabling personalized, competency-based education.

This report explores five issues to tackle to build toward a vision and strategy for transformation to personalized, competency-based education systems:

  • Redefining student success;
  • Meaningful qualifications;
  • Accountability as continuous improvement;
  • Developing educator capacity; and
  • Building capacity to lead change.

Student Agency Design Studio Agenda (May 2017)

6th-8th grade math and science teachers at Cisco attended a design studio as part of the Raising Blended Learners initiative. The studio focused on student agency and the agenda highlights key topics, questions, and activities addressed throughout the day.

Cisco ISD Participates in Raising Blended Learners Finalist Workshop

As part of the Raising Blended Learners demonstration initiative, teams representing 10 finalist schools and districts attended a workshop in February to receive professional assistance in further refining their blended learning plans. Five winners, announced as demonstration sites in April 2016, each received $500,000 in grants and technical implementation support for three years.
